List Of All Presidents Of India Till 2019

The President of India is the head of state of the republic of India and the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces.
The president is referred to as the first citizen of India.
Here is the list of the Presidents Of India from 1950 to 2019:

1. Dr. Rajendra Prasad (1950-1962).
2. Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan(1962-1967).
3. Dr. Zakir Hussain (1967-1969) (Died in office).

~Varahagiri Venkata Giri (3 May 1969 to  20 July 1969 (Acting).
~Justice Md. Hidayatullah ( 20 July 1969 to 24 Aug. 1969) (Acting).

4.Varahagiri Venkata Giri (1969-1974).
5. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed (1974-1977) (Died in office).

~ Basappa Danappa Jatti (11 Feb 1977 to 25 July 1977) (Acting).

6. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy (1977-1982).
7. Giani Zail Singh (1982-1987).
8. Ramaswamy Venkataraman (1987-1992).
9. Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma (1992-1997).
10. Kocheril Raman Narayanan (1997-2002).
11. Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (2002-2007).
12. Pratibha Patil (2007-2012).
13. Pranab Mukherjee (2012-2017).
14. Ram Nath Kovind (2017 till date).

There have been 14 presidents of India since the post was established when India was declared as a republic with the adoption of the constitution of India in 1950.
Apart from these fourteen, 3 acting presidents have also been in office for short periods of time.
The President holds office for a tenure of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office. However, he can resign from his office at any time by addressing the resignation letter to the Vice-President. Further, he can also be removed from the office before completion of his term by the process of impeachment. The President can hold office beyond his term of five years until his successor assumes charge. He is also eligible for re-election to that office.
The Electoral College elects the President of Indiawhich includes the elected members of both the Houses of Parliament, the elected members of the legislative assemblies of the states and the elected members of the legislative assemblies of the Union Territories. Their vote is single transferable and their second choice is counted too.
